Happy New Year to all the readers of the blog.
2015 has gone by and 2016 has started beautifully so far.
Here in Nigeria there are changes in the financial system that long term could affect the functioning of the website but not immediately and I am currently exploring options to manage the challenges while the government resolves the challenges they are currently managing so that the financial systems problems will be a temporary measure as promised.
This is week is the week a lot of people try to work with their New Year resolutions but many fall off the wagon before the end of the week an a larger percentage before the end of the year but all the same the newness of the New Year gives the opportunity to start something that may affect life positively and that is worth celebrating and encouraging.
In that spirit, I will share below a small essay on the place and the role of the bible that I saw in a book recently. I hope it will encourage you tremendously.
Have a very Happy New Year and may the love, grace and mercy of God be very personal with you and your family in the New Year 2016.
The Bible.
This book contains: the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers.
Its doctrine is holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be saved, and practice it to be holy.
It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword and the Christian’s charter. Here heaven is open, and the gates of hell are disclosed.
Christ is the grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end. it should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet.
read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. it is a mine of wealth, health to the should, and a river of pleasure. It is given you here in this life, will be opened at judgment, and is established for ever.
It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and condemn all who trifle with its contents[1].
[1]Richard Mayhue, How to Interpret the Bible for Yourself. Moody 1986. pg. 95
“No religion is stronger than its god, and in the case of Christianity, no Christians have ever been stronger than their knowledge of the true God and their desire to obey and glorify him”
